There comes a time in our lives, when we are faced with circumstances that are truly beyond our control. It is during those times, when we realize that there are good people around us, who care enough to care. We were very proud that Senator Mike Enzi chose to come and visit The Glenrock Bird here in beautiful Glenrock, Wyoming. There is something to be said for doing the very best job you can, working as hard as you possibly can, and having a United States Senator visit the very business you strive so very hard to keep afloat.

Glenrock, Wyoming's Town Council upholds decision to terminate two Police Officers
Glenrock, Wyoming - On Monday night, January 25th, Glenrock's Town Council upheld the firing of Police Officer's Mike Kavenius and Paul Brown.
The Town Council voted to uphold the decision to terminate both police officers following a tazing incident during Glenrock's annual Deer Creek Days Parade last August.
No fault was found on the officers parts after an investigation following the incident.

Police say that Bud Grose, the Tractor driver that was tazed during last years Deer Creek Days Parade in Glenrock, Wyoming, refused to follow several direct orders from the officers. After several attempts at stopping Mr. Grose and his tractor, Grose was tazed several times.
Neither former officer was present at the council meeting.

Those Herder Boys Just Keep on Keepin' On!
Did we think they couldn't? Well, some did...
Did we forget that sometimes, the underdog is just the big dog waiting to be cut loose? Well, some did...
There isn't anything like a really good game like the Glenrock, Newscastle game played on Jan 23rd. Those Herder Boys, coached by Justin Kidneigh, really took their skills, their confidence and their brevity to the court and took the win all the way home. We're proud of you boys.
Winning isn't everything my friends, continuing to play hard, with your heads held high whether you win or not is what pays off. Congratulations to all of you... and Coach Kidneigh too.

Broken laptop
Well folks, it happened. I broke my laptop... I didn't just break it... I dropped it on its spine and the lid broke .. fell backwards and promptly sliced the cables going from the base of the laptop to the monitor. Now here's the thing. I am on the road quite a bit lately having become the newest addition to my sales team for The Glenrock Bird and Open Range Magazine. Therefore I have (well, had) a MacBook Air that is nice and light in weight and super slim.. it has a 15" screen and I can do anything I need to from it. Its incredibly fast as well. I can build ads for The Glenrock Bird, I can build Open Range Magazine on it... its amazing (well, it was amazing)... I even had the books on it. Did I back it up recently.... well of course not. Did I almost throw up when I realized I would be spending a half of a day in the ER of the CPU... no, I actually did throw up. Okay, I really didn't throw up, but I came close.
I was however, able to get back up and running the next morning on another MacBook Air while waiting to hear back from my Insurance Company and I have to say that the technician (James) and his boss (Russ) and the secretary (Chris) were AMAZING and very aware of the situation I had found myself in. I am certain the pale look on my face propelled them into action.
So, Monday they will transfer everything from my broken laptop and I'll have everything back that I've been without for almost a week. All in all, we were still able to get the paper out (The Glenrock Bird) and work on Open Range Magazine.. but it really was an odd feeling to realize just how much we rely on our computers and laptops. So let this be a very valuable lesson to everyone...and yes, this includes me...back up your data... every day, back it up online if you have to, but back it up.
Its beginning to snow again tonight in Glenrock, Wyoming and the temperature has really dropped. Myself and my employees have wrapped up the Sunday morning paper and it will once again land on the doorsteps of every subscriber throughout Glenrock, Wyoming. We are six months away from our 4th volume of The Glenrock Bird, and we are still soaring.... and we remain "The Glenrock Bird Newspaper, A New Way To Fly."
Goodnight folks, have a beautiful and very Blessed night's sleep.

Delivering Community News to Glenrock, Wyoming in Converse County.
Good EARLY holy moly its snowin' again Friday morning! Bringing you some early morning chatter from The Glenrock Bird Delivering Community News to Glenrock, Wyoming in Converse County. I haven't a clue why the "bold" is on... but I've clicked on the B several times and I'll be darned if I can get it to "unbold" is that even a word?
Its a beautiful early early morning in Glenrock, and I can tell you thats the truth! I just got back in from covering a story on a chimney fire here in Glenrock on North 8th. No one was hurt according to Glenrock, Wyoming Volunteer Firefighter Shane Byrd. The fire appeared to have started in the Chimney and made its way into the attic. Both Glenrock FD and Rolling Hills FD rolled to the house fire which was dispatched at approximately 9:07pm. Byrd stated that the fire was quickly contained and doused before any further damage could occur.
We live in a small town folks, Glenrock, Wyoming ... and we're very lucky and Blessed to have volunteer fireman get up in the middle of the night to put out the flames that can easily and quickly destroy lives. Shane Byrd was just one of many local volunteer firefighters who worked to save the home in freezing temperatures during the late hours of Thursday night, January 14th, 2010 .
So that's it for tonight (or rather, morning) folks. I've still got the rest of the paper to put to bed before it goes to press in the morning. Looks like we've got our front page story, but not because someone's house was on fire, but because there are folks out there like Byrd who are out there protecting us.
Goodnight Glenrock - its 12:40am and its time to turn the lights out. Oh, and sleep soundly... you're under the best protection out there, that of the Glenrock, Wyoming and Rolling Hills Volunteer Fire Department.

Happy New Year from Open Range Magazine and The Glenrock Bird
HAHHPPPP---EEEEE NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!
And what a New Year it will be! Ahhh.. the great and wonderous 2010.... a clean slate ... plenty of Jim Beam, two amazing publications The Open Range Magazine and The Glenrock Bird and amazing employees and alas... my husband, whom I love with all my heart. BUT WAIT! In my reflection of the year of 2009, filled with some of thee worst crap I have ever had to deal with, let me state my amazing love for the Lord who makes my crazy mind click... without whom I would never ever have come as far as I have come on a wing and a prayer (ok, lets be honest folks, it was really on the wings of a jet airliner (enter Steve Miller Band) that barely made its landing, complete with skid marks on the runway and in my underpants, and the underpants of my staff.
Yessirree folks, I don't know how we did it, how we made it from the end of 2008 (which was followed closely by the beginning of the worse year of my life 2009) to the first day of 2010 (which I am certain will be the best year of my life... after all I am turning 40 this year... but, I digress)... speaking of digress, am I the only one who uses dot dot dot when I feel like believing the reader will actually understand my emotions as I was typing this, by separating my thoughts with an occasional (oh who am I kidding, its never really occasional) dot dot dot?
I had sushi last night... I am addicted to sushi... it was amazing. If ever anyone were to give me a gift, it should be sushi. That's it...... or money... in the form of very large bills.
There is something to be said for spending New Years Day at home, with the fireplace going, four extremely large dogs laying about the house, husband intent on watching the Rose Bowl, snoring in the lay-z-boy next to me, and the knowledge that we made it to a new year, and that God must surely have something planned for me, or he wouldn't have allowed me to be here this day: watching with surety, that Ohio State will surely have their asses handed to them on a silver platter this New Years Day. Ahhh yes, how can a New Year not be grand, when the Rose Bowl is hosting Oregon and Ohio State? All the while watching one of the most courageous men of the year, Captain Skully, toss the coin. I'm telling you Open Range Magazine and Glenrock Bird readers.... it just doesn't get any better than this.
I wish each and every one of you a beautiful afternoon this first day of 2010, and a very prosperous and Blessed year. Remember, with God we are capable of anything...

Glenrock, WY - The Tuesday after Christmas
Well its the Tuesday after Christmas and Open Range Magazine and The Glenrock Bird are really picking up steam. We've got a fresh new year ahead of us in the beautiful town of Glenrock, Wyoming and I can only thank God above for our supportive community and staff members. We are Blessed to live in Glenrock, Wyoming and are happy to give the members of our community and beyond the News that Matters Most! We are also happy to provide our community members and subscribers from around our great country with one of the finest Western Magazines, and the only Western Magazine in Wyoming... Open Range Magazine. As we grow closer to the end of 2009, I look back on the entire year and all its trials and tribulations and I think to myself... "its been hard, its been heart wrenching, but its been worth it."

The Glenrock Bird and Open Range Magazine IDEA LIGHTBULB just popped on!
The Glenrock Bird and Open Range Magazine lightbulb just popped on in my head and I had to get up (at 3am) and start writing. Have you checked out the digital version of the latest issue yet? Its chock full of incredible articles and stories on the real western way of life in the west, and living the western way of life East Coast Style... :) Its pretty awesome. Its been a little while since I've blogged... We've been swamped working to keep The Glenrock Bird and Open Range Magazine afloat in this economy. I would imagine all small business owners, especially publishers of small newspapers, are having a very tough time. Hopefully, those of you in that category like myself, have an incredible crew like the crew that keeps The Glenrock Bird and Open Range Magazine above water. Its Sunday night.. and I'm exhausted, but I wanted to stop by and tell everyone to keep their Faith, believe in what you are doing, and know that God is here to help us over any obstacle that becomes an object that is in our way. Here's to 2010 everyone! But before we get to the other side of this year, let me wish everyone a very Merry and very Blessed Christmas in beautiful and Historic Glenrock, Wyoming and beyond!

Cowboy Recipes, Bucking Bulls, Ranching, Western Art and Looking for John Wayne in All the Wrong Places!
Good evening to Glenrock, Wyoming and beyond (said like Count Dracula)... its been a few days since I've posted anything to my blog and I suppose that's because I've been busy getting the digital version of Volume 2 Issue 3 of Open Range Magazine completed and distributed. We've introduced a new part of the magazine, Its called the East Coast Side of Open Range Magazine... so what we've accomplished is a fabulous group of gorgeous photographs and fabulous articles from the East Coast to the West Coast. Its pretty amazing if I do say so myself. The Cowboy Cuisine Recipe Section (proudly called Bunkhouse Recipes) is once again a huge hit for Open Range Magazine. And we proudly boast one of the worlds most well known and sought after western artists, Mr. Tim Cox. Cox's Western Art is amazing and I can assure you that if you don't already own a Western Art piece from Tim Cox, you will surely want to after this fabulous article written by Codi Vallerie.
There is everything from our East Coast writer Jackson Braun's view on finding Cowboys in New York , to Tena Bastian's flavorful article of Oklahoma's Clanahan Clan. Dave P Fisher, Cowboy Poet and Writer extraordinaire joins us for another great story about the adventures of Jack and Cleve!

Ow! WOWZA! What a day!
Its been a day in Glenrock, Wyoming ....
Well folks, I can hardly believe it myself ... but (pinches self) The Glenrock Bird received an anonymous tip about 2:00 this afternoon that what is believed to be a human skull was accidentally unearthed in Central Wyoming by a Glenrock Plumbing Contractor who was digging about 6 feet down to fix a water pipe. He saw the skull and immediately stopped his backhoe and jumped down to locate the owner of the land, who then promptly called Police. By the time The Glenrock Bird staff (myself and my reporter/photogapher) arrived .. we were just minutes behind the Coroner, two detectives and three sheriff. It was a crazy scene to say the least and the Coroner did confirm with The Glenrock Bird that the skull "appears to be human, but of what age we cannot be sure." An Anthropologist was called in to meet the Coroner and the detectives at the Coroners headquarters, where the skull was taken to. Although the area is not yet determined to be a crime scene, Sheriff's Deputies did state that all digging in the area must be halted until further notice. It was an exciting day for The Glenrock Bird , if this turns out to be a crime scene, then perhaps (and this is only an assumption) a missing person's family will finally get some closure, if this is a Native Indian skull, well we will be experiencing a piece of Wyoming's History. If this skull is from the remains of a Pioneer traveling the Oregon Trail, then we will also experience a piece of Wyoming's History. Any which way this goes, it is unusual for a small town newspaper like The Glenrock Bird to receive such a huge story. My reporter and I traveled about a half an hour out into the County's most rural ranching areas in blowing snow and freezing temperatures to chase this story down. We walked through knee high sagebrush and tumbleweeds (I in my fabulous skirt and high heeled designer cowboy boots and a gorgeous leopard print coat, and Jess in her sneakers, and her stylish Suede and White Fur Collar coat, both of us gloveless)... clearly we were not dressed for the occasion but it didn't matter as we trudged through the snow, and scrub brush to grab this story. We were exhilarated even though the temperatures were in the teens and those all too familiar Wyoming winds were picking up. We were respectfully welcomed by the Authorities who answered questions for us once the skull was safely tucked away in the Coroners vehicle. So, its been an exciting day.... neither one of us can feel our fingers (I'm typing with two pencils.. just kidding) but we are excited to follow up on this story and get it out to our faithful readers. Its truly amazing, days like this when the heart gets pumping and the blood gets going and you feel that old adrenalin start to work on your motivation and before you know it, you don't feel the cold or the wind or the sagebrush tripping up our feet as we walked carefully near the site. You only feel that moment in time where you realize like all the times before, that you are responsible, time and again, to deliver the news to the people. One more thing!
I also wanted to comment on The Glenrock Bird, Glenrock, Wyoming's Sunday Morning Newspaper. We are in our third volume and in July we will begin our fourth volume of The Glenrock Bird. I can't thank my staff enough for everything each of them have put into this incredible newspaper that just continues to grow in readership, every single week. Thanks to God again, for our subscribers and advertisers, community members and the Town of Glenrock, as well as the Glenrock Chamber of Commerce and Douglas Chamber of Commerce for their continued Faith in Glenrock's Sunday morning newspaper. We love it, and we are proud that you do too!

Open Range Magazine and The Glenrock Bird
Whew, well its been a while since I've blogged folks. Turns out that a lot has happened. We got caught up in an unfortunate situation with a woman who owns a rescue place for horses, travelled 11 hours just to get our copyrights infringed upon. We learned a little too late how ruthless people can be when they want something for nothing, and how some people will stop at nothing to hurt other people. Its been a hard lesson learned in regards to donating the time and energy and materials spent that Open Range Magazine and my staff donated for the aforementioned event. But, we'll take our lumps and move on like the rest of us who work very hard to continue pursuing their dreams, do.
Having said all that, Open Range Magazine and The Glenrock Bird continue to flourish despite the ruthless behavior of this woman, and we continue to donate and provide services for many community functions in Wyoming and beyond.
Its amazing to me, as I write this, that Open Range Magazine is in its second year and second volume. We had an interesting road getting the magazine off the ground, we were late at times, had a few obstacles we needed to get over (and did, praise God) and suffered some trials and tribulations along the way. But, what company doesn't? In fact, what person doesn't when they are pursuing something that is in their heart? So, here we are ... getting ready to print Volume 2 Issue 3 of Open Range Magazine and its going to be as gorgeous as the last issue and the ones before that one. Thanking God above for the energy of my staff, and myself, my Mom and Dad, friends, advertisers and susbscribers who stuck by us and continue to stick by us as we continue to publish and distribute one of the finest real western magazines around.
